A masterbatch consists of three basic components-pigments or dyes, a carrier resin, and additives. It is an aggregate formed by uniformly dispersing a high concentration of pigment or dye within a resin matrix; often referred to as a pigment concentrate, it possesses a higher tinting strength than the pigment alone. Masterbatches are classified by the resin used (e.g., PE, PP, or ABS masterbatches) and by application (e.g., for fibers, films, blown films, or spinning processes, as well as general-purpose types).
Companies often blend several masterbatches to formulate specific colors for customers requiring smaller quantities. However, customers should not attempt to mix different masterbatches on their own without guidance from technical personnel-and must strictly avoid mixing products from different manufacturers-to prevent issues such as incompatibility that could result in financial loss.
